Brake Lining Program

Selecting the correct replacement brake linings for heavy duty trucks is an important component in the overall safety of the vehicle. It is essential that the replacement brake linings function as well as the material originally supplied on the vehicle.

2000 - SAE transferred the administration of the program to the Performance Review Institute (PRI) but the procedural and structural set-up are essentially unchanged.

1994 - SAE created the Brake Lining Review Institute. Under the guidance of the SAE Performance Review Board, the Brake Lining Review committee administered the program.

1993 - American Trucking Association's The Maintenance Council - now Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) requested the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) develop a program using data generated from tests run in accordance with TMC Recommended Practice 628A and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 121 to evaluate after-market heavy-duty truck brake linings.
